The Protective Collective

Protection, power + collective care

A free, two-week community experience exploring social justice magic, meaningful action, and how we care for one another in difficult times.

There is a lot to carry right now.

The news. The grief. The rage of watching harm happen and institutions fail the people they are supposed to protect. The exhaustion of caring deeply while trying to get through your own day.

You might be wondering what to do with all of it. How to protect yourself without withdrawing from everything. How to support others when your own capacity feels stretched. How your magical practice can help you respond.

The Protective Collective is an invitation to explore those questions together.

Over two weeks, we will begin with protection and boundaries, make room for grief and anger, and build toward magical practice connected to solidarity and concrete action. Between gatherings, a shared conversation space will offer opportunities to ask questions, share reflections, and practice alongside one another.

You can come with big feelings, uncertainty, curiosity, or very little energy. You do not need to arrive with answers.

What's the schedule?

The Protective Collective is a free, portal-based community experience exploring protection, social justice magic, and collective care.

Beginning Monday, October 19, four chapters will unfold over two weeks. Through teachings, guided practices, reflection prompts, and shared conversation, we will begin with protection and boundaries and build toward solidarity and meaningful action.

You can engage with the material on your own schedule. Between chapters, our shared conversation space will offer opportunities to ask questions, share what you are noticing, exchange support, and connect with others doing this work.

There are no required daily assignments. You are welcome to participate quietly, take your time, and return to practices as you need them.

We'll have an online gathering: Sunday, November 1st, 3:00-5:00pm

And an in person gathering: Sunday, November 1st, 1:00pm-3:00pm

We begin with protection

Protection includes the boundaries we set, the support we can reach for, and the conditions we work to create for one another.

Together, we will explore protective magic alongside questions of consent, access, dignity, and shared responsibility.

What deserves access to your attention? What helps you feel supported? Who can you turn toward? How can we help protect people facing harm?

Throughout this experience, we hold one essential truth: being harmed is never evidence that someone failed to protect themselves or perform the right magic. Responsibility belongs to those who cause harm.

Our practices will help us name intentions, strengthen commitments, and connect with one another. We will also explore the practical choices and collective actions that support those intentions.

Our two-week journey

Journey One: Protection + belonging

We begin by creating our community agreements and exploring personal and collective protection. You will be guided through a simple protection practice and identify a boundary or source of support to carry into the days ahead.

There will be room to introduce yourself, listen, and participate at your own pace.

Journey two: Grief, rage + discernment

We will make space for the feelings that arise when we witness injustice, without requiring anyone to share personal experiences of harm.

Through reflection and ritual, we will explore what our anger asks us to protect, what our grief needs, and where we have the capacity to engage.

Journey Three: Magic in service of justice

We will explore how to shape a magical working around a clear social justice intention, such as protection, truth, or accountability.

Together, we will connect that intention to a concrete action. You will choose a next step that fits your circumstances, resources, and capacity.

Journey Four: Solidarity + sustained practice

We will return to share what we tried, what we learned, and where we need support.

You will create a personal plan for continuing this work, with space for magical practice, community connection, action, and rest.

Connection between gatherings

Sometimes the question arrives the next morning. Sometimes you need to try a practice before you know what you want to ask.

Our shared conversation space will remain available throughout the two-week experience for:

  • Questions about the teachings and magical practices.
  • Optional reflections and conversations.
  • Verified resources and opportunities for action.
  • Specific offers or requests for practical support.
  • Sharing small shifts, challenges, and things you are learning.

Gentle prompts will help keep the conversation moving. Participation is optional, and there are no daily assignments to keep up with.

The space will be facilitated at designated times, shared at the beginning of the experience. When posting, you can let others know whether you want witnessing, ideas, or simply room to share.

Join online or begin with us at Lumos

The experience is designed for online participation, so you can join from wherever you are.

Local participants may choose an in-person opening circle at Lumos Collective in Old Town Alexandria. An equivalent opening will be offered online. After the opening, participants will come together online for the remaining three gatherings and share the same conversation space.

Each online gathering will last approximately 75–90 minutes.

You can keep your camera off, participate through chat, speak when you choose, or listen quietly. Live sharing will not be recorded. Written teaching recaps and practice instructions will be provided if you miss a gathering.

What you'll need...

No purchased kit or special tools are required.

For our opening practice, bring paper, something to write with, and an everyday object you would like to use as a protective reminder. A key, ring, stone, or another meaningful item will work. Thread or ribbon is optional.

Our shared practices will be flame-free and smoke-free. Deity work is not required.

Who this is for...

The Protective Collective welcomes people who want to explore the relationship between magic, social justice, and community care.

You may be new to witchcraft, returning to your practice, or looking for ways to bring your values more fully into the magic you already do. You may understand ritual spiritually, symbolically, or through a combination of both.

This experience is grounded in consent, bodily autonomy, racial justice, queer and trans dignity, disability justice, and collective care.

You do not need to be a survivor, disclose your history, or have experience with activism to participate. We ask that you arrive willing to respect others, reflect on your own assumptions, and learn alongside the group.

How we will share space

You choose what you share and which practices you participate in. Passing, stepping away, and returning are welcome.

We will ask participants to respect privacy, avoid graphic descriptions of harm, and seek consent before offering advice. No one will be expected to explain their identity, recount trauma, or educate others through their personal experiences.

We ask everyone to keep others’ stories private, while recognizing that confidentiality cannot be guaranteed in an online group.

This is a facilitated learning and ritual community. It does not provide therapy, crisis response, or individual trauma processing.
