What is Reiki?

What is Reiki?

I remember the first time I heard the term Reiki. I was at an essential oils party (yes, MLM central) and someone was talking about receiving Reiki healing. It seemed a little “out there” at the time but it caught my interest. Fast forward three years later, in the middle of the pandemic, and I’m learning about every kind of metaphysical healing technique I can. I was trying tapping, shaking the energy out, energy healing, and of course reiki. And the thing is, I loved it so much that I became a reiki healer and soon to be a reiki master in November 2022.

But what the heck is it?

Reiki originates in Japan during the late 1800s and eventually made its way to the West in the 1900s. It’s a form of energy healing that promotes relaxation and healing. Reiki uses life force energy to heal the body, spirit, soul, and mind through healing touch. Although, it is important to note that you don’t actually have to touch someone to perform reiki. You can perform reiki at a distance, across seas, or record reiki to be viewed at a later time.

Like many healing forms, there are different types and ways for it to be practices. It’s hard to find a complete list but my understanding is there are eight forms, with one being missing from this list. I am trained in the newest form of reiki, Holy Fire .

With any new age practice, people often wonder if something like this works. And the truth is, it’s hard to measure something like energy. But what can be measured are people’s experiences and responses. Because reiki has been so beneficial for people, hospitals and psychiatrist offices in the United States and the United Kingdom have begun offering reiki. It is also common for people undergoing cancer treatments and surgery to be offered reiki treatments to aid in their healing.

You can even find reputable places like the Cleveland Clinic , There have even been clinical trials , systematic reviews, peer reviewed articles published on reiki. Of course, reiki can’t replace treatment but it is a great aset to use alongside treatment.

In another post I’ll share some of the beneifts I’ve experienced with reiki and the ones my clients have.

Sending love + magic,

Jade
